DIGITALIZATION IN THE BUSINESS SECTOR OF RUSSIA AND EU COUNTRIES

Accelerating the digital transformation process in Russia now appears to be a significant challenge, with uneven penetration of digital technologies: their advance distribution in the public services sector is at the background of insufficient digital activity in the business sector. The study conducted a comparative analysis of digital development features in the business sector of Russia and European countries. The clusters of countries with similar conditions and results of digital transformations in the business sector were via multi-dimensional statistical methods of classifying and reducing the dimension, as well as a comprehensive assessment of Russia`s position in the resulting dimension were identified. It is shown that for the majority of digital technologies analyzed in the Russian business section, there is a positive dynamics in the study period, but the observed growth rate was insufficient for to overcome the lag behind European countries with a high level of technological development. The similarity of the main factors that constrain the growth of digital activity in the business sector, with the most significant constraints of innovation and investment activities of enterprises, was revealed. It is necessary to improve statistical monitoring of digital development in the Russian business sector was shown. Highlights: digital development in the business sector of European countries is heterogeneity with a fairly high level of use of digital technology in the business sector of EU countries as a whole; the most indicators of digital transformation of the business sector of Russia illustrate a positive dynamics, but the observed growth rates have not overcome the lag behind the European countries with high levels of technological development; the implemented approach to obtaining clusters of countries with similar conditions and results of digital transformation in the business sector made it possible to assess Russia`s position in the classification received, as well as to present benchmarks for the further development.
