Ralyk D.V., Sayamova Ya.G.

The article studies the development of retail chains in the food segment in cities with millions of people and in rural areas in comparison. The analysis revealed trends in the influence of federal-level operators on the development of network retail in various types of territories, both positive and negative. The article suggests approaches to minimizing imbalances and making management decisions in the field of retail development, due to the need to balance more sensitively between the interests of tax collection and the development goals of small and medium-sized businesses in both urban and rural areas. Keywords: retail trade network, rural trade, problems of network trade development, food retail trends. Highlights: ♦ the modern consumer market is characterized by disproportions in the development of local and federal network retail in urban and rural areas, which are both positive and negative; ♦ to smooth out the disparity in certain narrow segments of network trade it is necessary to introduce new standards for the placement of retail outlets and their number; ♦ digitalization of network trade should cover not only federal-level network operators, but also local retailers, including those working only in rural areas; ♦ the adoption of new programs in the field of trade should be focused on the creation and implementation of a unique regional concept for the development of the consumer market.
